Healthy Daycare Meal Ideas for Babies and Toddlers

Once our little one was eating table food, I wanted to make sure I was sending healthy meals with her to daycare. Yes, our daycare provides breakfast and lunch, but I really enjoy sending my daughter with food from home. I know what’s in it, I know where it came from, etc. Also, a lot of the processed foods they feed the kids are loaded down with sugar and who knows what else. That’s just not our thing or the lifestyle we lead. To each their own.

Here is a list of single items that are quick and easy to mix and match for breakfast, lunch, or snack:






Peach or pear cups


Lunch Main Items

Shredded Chicken

Raviolies or tortellinis


Turkey and Cheese


Meat or Veggie burger

Homemade macaroni and cheese

Sweet potato chicken nuggets

Whatever you cooked the night before

Lunch Side Items

Whole wheat pasta spirals (spiral just because it’s fun and easy to grab)

Steamed baby carrots, broccoli, zucchini, yellow squash


Cut fruit

Sweet potato fries

Black Beans


Green beans





Whole apple

Peeled and segmented mandarin oranges

Cut fruit

Pretzels and hummus


Yogurt Melts

Here is a list of meal combinations ideas:

Chicken, pasta, steamed veggie, cheese

Shredded chicken, black beans, cheese, tortilla strips

Pancakes and fruit

Meatballs, cheese, steamed veggies

Veggie burger and sweet potato fries

Sweet potato chicken nuggets, green beans, fruit

Ravioli, steamed veggies

Crackers, cheese, turkey, fruit

Quesadilla, black beans, corn

Macaroni and cheese, steamed veggies

It stinks, but most places, including our daycare, are peanut free so we can’t sent PB&J’s.

We have these really cool little lunch containers that I love because I can send a variety of food and you can just take the containers out that need to be microwaved. When our daughter was younger, we would send pretty simple, and fairly plain food items. When toddlerhood rolled around, we added more variety. A lot of times, she’ll just have leftovers from what we ate for dinner the night before. Hope this helps!
